Being an amazing general Napoleon was able to spread a sense of nationalism through France and even other countries by winning so many battles even when outnumbered making him very popular during the revolution and he was able to use that popularity to dissolve the consul of 500 and elders to make the consul of three and later make himself emperor. People were proud to be on his side.
